Morningside HOA Board Meeting

Meeting Minutes
Ben Whipple called the meeting to order at 6:43 p.m.
In Attendance: Lauren Heavern, Benny Nixon, Matt Huff, Ben Whipple, and Jimmy Newland. Absent: Andrew Johnson & Mike Pilcher.
Ben welcomed Lauren Heavern to her first meeting. Lauren replaced Philip Blume who will be traveling with his family for the next year.
Approval of Minutes: Matt motioned, Benny seconded and the minutes from the 3/1/22 board meeting were unanimously approved.
There was discussion around several ACC related complaints. As is customary those will remain confidential. Ben did report that the asphalt section of the sidewalk at the front of the neighborhood is only temporary until a new concrete section can be poured.
Ben mentioned that the tree installer will be replacing, for free, 5 or so trees that died in front of the first house on the right. Jimmy questioned the bushes being trimmed that were supposed to be allowed to grow together and Matt replied that it was a mistake by Houseman.
Report on 5/14 Block Party
The party was a success and people seemed to enjoy themselves. Following are the take-aways in terms of next year’s event:
- Ben said he spent a bunch of time managing the slide and the board decided next time that volunteers could be solicited for 15 minute blocks to share that responsibility.
- There was much discussion around the waivers – difficulty of collecting and knowing who had completed one vs. the value of actually having them at all. The board felt like there was still value in putting some responsibility back on parents. Lauren suggested that next year we issue wrist bands once the waiver was submitted and then only allow kids on the slide that had wrist bands.
- The board discussed paying Tony McCullers and Tommy McCullers each $50 to help with their expenses in hosting the block party. Benny made a motion, Matt seconded, and the payments were unanimously approved.
Treasurer Report
Matt reported that neighborhood dues were fully paid – as of 3/20 or so. The budget is on target as planned – with nothing new cropping up. The neighborhood tax forms were filed – Ben and Matt did this together (nothing owed). Ben said that going forward, a non-signing board member will review the tax filing for internal control purposes.
Elections
Ben reminded everyone that we need to hold elections in August. As of now we are still on just 1 year terms since it would have required a large percentage of the neighborhood to vote to move to staggered 2 year terms. All board members present said they were willing to continue to serve, but also willing to step down if other neighbors really wanted to get involved. Ben will review the bylaws for notification requirements for the meeting and report back to the board with possible dates.
Benny motioned, Matt seconded, and Ben adjourned the meeting at 8:09 p.m.
