Morningside HOA Board Meeting – Minutes
3/14/2023
Ben Whipple called meeting to order at 6:36 pm.
In attendance: Ben Whipple, Andrew Johnson, Matt Huff, Lauren Heavern, Benny Nixon, and Jimmy Newland.
Approval of Minutes: Andrew motioned, Matt seconded and previous meeting minutes were unanimously approved.
Follow-up from previous meetings:
- Ben reported that he has an inventory document of what the HOA owns – i.e. Christmas decorations, etc.
- Ben reported that he, Matt, and Andrew fixed the street sign across from Tony McCuller’s house that someone had knocked down
- Andrew related that the two fences, that a neighbor had complained about previously, had both been stained by the respective homeowners
New Items:
- Ben reported that here had been a complaint lodged about parking on the street near Tony McCullers. Andrew said that it had already been taken care of
- Ben announced the Easter party that the social committee had organized and that flyers would be dropped off and emailed.
- Ben said that he had re-registered the HOA with the state of Georgia
- Matt reported that all but four residents had paid their HOA dues. The board agreed to split the list and personally appeal to those four.
- Jimmy suggested that we have College Pro cut back the Loropetalum in front of the signs – as it obscured pretty stone work and made it tougher to see the signs. Matt will call College Pro.
Future Action Items:
- Mike mentioned that there have been cars parked off of the driveway at his neighbor’s house. This was brought up mainly as a discussion point of how to handle this issue going forward. As more and more teenagers start to drive, adequate parking at residences will become a legitimate issue. Some parameters will need to be established as to what is permissible – will concrete have to be poured? Gravel brought in? Certainly, it should be within close proximity to the driveway and should not be near the sidewalk. This will need to be revisited in the future.
- Ben brought back up the idea of a neighborhood directory – as a number of residents had expressed interest. Some thoughts and comments on that subject were:
- Put something like an excel file on the website and people could optionally decide what to include. Names kids, ages, etc.
- Some ideas on what to include were: address, owner names, email, phone, kids and their birth year, and a comments/notes section for if kids offered babysitting, pet sitting, etc.
- A suggestion was made that the board could break up the neighborhood and go door to door to collect information.
Andrew made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Matt, and Ben adjourned the meeting at 7:34 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jimmy Newland
Morningside HOA Secretary
